Oscar Sunday!!! - 07 Apr 2012 08:37
Tags:
—My fucking Pocahontas paper took longer than I thought. I'd hoped to knock it out in an hour when I got to the office today; it took 2.5!!! I'm about 90% finished. I hope I did it right; I hate ambiguous assignments (re: watch a movie from the list, research a controversy about it, and give your own thoughts).
—I forgot to put on real shoes, so I'm wearing flipflops and it's raining. Effff.
—Oscar Sunday!!!! WOOT!!!!!
Here's who I want/think will win (my hope is in red, my prediction is in blue)
Best Picture: Slumdog Millionaire/Slumdog Millionaire (my parents saw it last night and didn't like it! WTF parents?!)
Best Actress: Kate Winslet/Kate Winslet
Best Actor: Frank Langella/Sean Penn
Best Supporting Actor: Heath Ledger/Heath Ledger
Best Supporting Actress: Taraji P. Henson/Penelope Cruz
—Back to the thesis. I want to go be in bed and be lazy, but I cannot. I MUST FINISH THE KENNEDY SECTION BY THURSDAY!!!!!!!!!!!So yeahAll of my Oscar predictions were ON the nose. ALL OF THEM. MWAHAHAHAHAHAA
Brief comments now, then a festive recappish thing tomorrow afternoon.
Props to Hugh Jackman. I loved the opening number, and he did a great job keeping the levity in the show. My only qualms were with the musical number; I enjoyed it for the most part, but I don't understand why a gal like Beyonce who famously sings in…aerobic conditions should be lip singing (that's right: LIP SINGING).
THANK GOD Mickey Rourke didn't win. I'm sure he is great in "The Wrestler," but I really wanted Penn to get it over him. His remarks on Prop-8 resonated with everyone in the room I was watching it with; we were all nodding and sort of touching our hearts without thinking about it.
Kate Winslet's dad is AWESOME. I LOVED the whistle, and I am so happy she won. She really deserved it for "The Reader." I wish I could be as talented as she is.
I like Penelope Cruz more and more when I see her. I honestly don't care for her accent when she speaks in English, but her work in "Volver" was awesome, and I want to see "Vicky Christina Barcelona." Himself translated the end of her speech for me; she said the honor belongs to all of Spain for getting her to where she is.
I really liked how they presented the major acting awards; having five previous winners talk directly to the nominees must have been cool. Anne Hathaway was about to piss herself when Shirley MacLaine talked to her.
I love that "Jai Ho" and "Slumdog" in general won. SUCH a great film, and awesome that the kids came, too!!
Nicole Kidman wears some variation of the same thing all the time. It's getting old.
Best Dresses: Kate Winslet, Penelope Cruz, Meryl Streep, Natalie Portman
**I LOVED the Judd Apatow tribute to comedy; SO FUNNY.
Now to finish my fucking "Pocahontas" paper… *grumble grumble*"History's like an amusement park. Except instead of rides you have dates to memorize." MargeGot an A- on my history paper. I guess I can't complain too much about that.
—Finished the Pocahontas paper. I essentially argued that Disney promoted Euro-American white hegemony while whoring out the body of Pocahontas for profit. Interesting stuff. I still kinda like the movie, though.
—"Jai Ho" might be the coolest song ever, aside from "Paper Planes." /listening to them both on a loop
—I have a new header I am DYING to use. I have been trying to wait till Thursday, as that will mark almost a month since I uploaded this current one, but I am just telling myself that y'all don't even notice that stuff as much as I do. I'll be putting up the new one tonight or tomorrow. *woot!*
—I REALLY want to see Milk. I emailed my prof last night after Penn's speech; this particular teacher is doing a whole book on Milk and is all about GLBTQ issues. He said he was very excited and reminded me again that I need to see the damn movie. I also want to rewatch Slumdog Millionaire.
—I need to do an icon overhaul soon.
—I will be on a sunny beach in Jamaica at this exact time next week. YEY!!!!!!!!!
—Himself is precious. He opened the door after the Oscars and tacklehugged/tickled me for about three straight minutes, then just turned around and left. Again, he's the best thing that's happened to me in a while.
—I'm feeling pretty buoyant now; too bad I'm about to go die in Total Body Conditioning and probably won't be able to walk later tonight as a consequence….
—I need to finish Lolita this week so I can get into the Wally Lamb book and North and South. - Comments: 0

I FINALLY got to Mary Ann's, the one and only go-to bar near campus! After watching Emma's stellar performance in THe Vagina Monologues, I went to the bar with Nicole, Amanda, one of Nic's RA friends from her staff, and Emma tagged along, too. We had an AMAZING time, and then a lot of friends from our year came later after coming from the big "100 Days' celebration downtown (100 days till graduation from today). We caught the last bus home and noshed on chicken fingers on the way back. It's a stellar night, and I am very tirde and drunkish.
North and South watch-a-thon is tomorrow at 2:00 PM!!!!!!!!!!! BE THERE OR BE SUPER SQUARE IN THE NONCOOLEST OF WAYS!!!!!!!!! :D :D
ETA: The "drunk" mood theme is not threatening/representative. Hmph. I'm going tobed now. Heh.What a badass day…—I got up and had a bagel. +1
—At 2:00, my friend Lauren from freshman and sophomore year came over to join me for North and South. We lost touch last year but chatted at the bar last night; she was always one of my few friends who loved period romances, so I invited her over and she joined me! +1
—NORTH AND SOUTH-A-THON WAS EPIC FUCKING WIN OF FLAILING AND JOY!! We had an AWESOME time!! solitude_2, daybythelake, missfnb, odetokeats, and bandbooktvworm joined me for the fun, and boy was it fun!!
Some of my favorite comments…
** "Pleasant parks." While she's walking through the cemetery. XD (bandbooktvworm)
** Who's this proper gloom and doom bitch in the black? (daybythelake, coming in late and wondering about Mrs. Thornton)
** That one man with the fuck-me-eyes and fuck-me-harder-voice is … whew! (daybythelake, regarding Mr. Thornton-DbtL had a lot of gems)
** I'd like to know a little bit more about your hardship, please. (DbtL, as Mr. Thornton sultrily talks about his tough childhood with his sexy voice)
** Okay. I think I'm finally done with taxes and can focus solely on Richard North & South. (solitude_2)
** Yeah, this guys has mastered the brooding stare. It incinerates panties. (DbtL, with another winner. I think I want that on an icon…)
** Dude, Thorton's sister is a little snot. (missfnb)
** That was some mighty handshakesex right there. (After creating the term "Kilted Penis" on FFTC, DbtL impresses again with this notion of "Handshakesex")
** Uh, that shot of RA through the window, zooming in on his fuck-me-eyes …. (DbtL, and then dear bandbooktvworm came to the rescue with a screencap!!!!!!)
** Ugh, I never understood all this beating-up-the-people-that-are-doing-as-you-say-and-leaving business… (odetokeats, after the soldiers started attacking rioters on their way out the door)
** Take off the tie! And your shirt. And your pants! (bandbooktvworm)
** Yep fabby with me too! Might go make more tea.. need to calm my nerves… OH MY GOODNESS HE'S TAKEN OFF HIS CRAVAT!!! (odetokeats agreeing to taking a break then getting…distracted)
** "I just ate a small bag of Fritos. /FNB Story Hour" to which solitude_2 replied, "Did you know that if you took a flame to a frito, it will ignite and keep burning for a while because of all the oils in a single chip? /is a dork"
** Stupid Margaret. You could be handshakefucking the shit out of Thornton right now. Way better than "reading" that book and daydreaming about his brooding eyes. (DbtL; I honestly think this should be the new slogan of the FFTC)
** "Good Day", just another way to say "Fuck You". (solitude_2)
** "I've never seen this, but I can't be relied on to make any substantive comments about the movie. I'm only barely grasping some semblance of mill worker and class struggle story behind all the RA eyefucking." (DbtL)
** Solitude_2: Focus on eyefucking RA for now. You can catch up on all the subsequent mumbo-jumbo on other viewings
cah215: "Subsequent mumbo-jumbo" (noun): plot, or central storytelling elements of a novel, play, film, or story"
Solitude_2: Hey! I own that copy of Webster's too!! ;P
** OH GOD. HENRY'S BACK WITH HIS MUTTON CHOPS (bandbooktvworm)
** JH sucks my ass. I haven't watched TO in months. (DbtL, commenting on Jim Halpert)
** The death tally for the second half of North and South cracks me up. (odetokeats)
** ANOTHER ONE BITES THE DUST (odetokeats)
** *something relevant to N&S* LOL, JK. I just wanted to show off my new default icon. Even though I think only Cooley will know wth it is. (missfnb, unveiling a badass Moonlighting icon)
** "I'll not risk everything on some idiot money scheme." Oh, if only John Thornton had been in charge of Lehman Brothers… (cah215yeah, I like what I said)
** Yeah. Fanny is a ridiculous name. I think Mama Thornton just said, "I don't care much for GOB Fanny." (bandbooktvworm)
** bandbooktvworm: It because she fell in love with Richard Armitage and couldn't look him in his sexy eyes
Cah215: So now he's a basilisk….
Bandbooktvworm : Of sex. If a woman looks him in his eyes, her clothes melt off.
** *Is a puddle on the floor* (odetokeats, after the finale scene)
** Yeah, she's all nattering on about finance and business propositions, and he's all, Lady, can we get to the real business of handshakefucking and making out and other naked activities?! (DbtL, on the last scene)
** And Solitude_2 left us with this gem…
FUN DAY, GIRLS!!!!!!!!!!!!
-Himself came back from skiing, and we went to the hockey game. +1
-He got me all excited about a job I might like, then remembered they stopped recruiting back in September. I felt underprepared to get a job and got emo for a few minutes. -1
-Himself kissed me and made me feel better. +2
-…Then we realized that three of my residents were sitting behind us. Oops. -1
-I'm writing a stupid ass cultural diversity paper about the movie Pocahontas. It's due Monday, and I want to do most of it tonight so I can do thesis pages allllllll day tomorrow before the Oscars. I give myself a point for being semi-ahead of things. +1

Early Mornings Suck - 07 Apr 2012 08:35
Tags:
—I HATE getting up so early on Tuesdays, but I guess I need to get used to it. The days of sleeping in end in May.
—It is getting a bit colder, and apparently snow is on the way later this week. Argh.
—Himself's mom is coming later this week. I think it's good news; Himself is unexcited.
—We had RA woes last night. Our ski trip with the babies fell apart for the weekend; Himself and I are very frustrated, as we did most of the work, but not enough people signed up and communications breakdowns messed up ordering a bus. It's annoying.
—I got 7 of my 10 pages down last night; if the aforementioned woes had not happened, I would have gotten to 10. Fie on woes!! (I listened to the Camelot soundtrack as I worked on the Kennedy section; needless to say, it's seeping into everyday conversation now.)
—Lolita is fucked up, but Nabokov is SO good. I can't wait to get into this with the FFTC.
—We have a new frog exhibit; I think I'm gonna go check that out as I wake up. My face looks A LOT like my mood theme, actually…
—My space bar is sticking. Blurgh.
Help from Urban DictionaryI was thinking about guilty pleasures on the way home from work, and I kept pondering the many definitions folks use for the term. I looked it up, out of curiosity, on Urban Dictionary. Here's what I got…
-Something that you shouldn't like, but like anyway
-Something that you love to do, but you just cannot admit that you do it
-Keeping a secret collection of ABBA and Carpenters and listening to their albums when no one else is around
All of these are pretty accurate, and after some soul-searching, I think I can share a few GPs with y'all.
1. French Fries dipped in a chocolate milkshakeit's not something I always get, but on occasion it's awesome
2. What a Girl Wants
3. Moonlighting DVDs (not very guilty about it, but my residents look at me weird when they come to borrow DVDs)
4. North and South fanficIt's as predictable as snow in January, but lately it's my go-to solution when I am desperate to procrastinate (and that's happening a lot lately).
5. Meredith Brooks' "Bitch"
6. Ross Perot
7. Reruns of The Nanny
8. LJ (yes, sometimes I am embarrassed to tell folks I'm such an internet dependent gal)
9. Scrabble
10. Coloring/doodling/writing/etching/scrawling my name all over everything—It's in my room in 48 places, and I've written it six times in different styles on our staff white board. It's also all over the margins of my notebooks. I'm not writing "Mrs. Zach Morris;" I'm writing "Cooley is cool" or "Cooley likes soda."
11. Titanic
12. Elvis Presley
Your guilty pleasures? Come one, this could be rife for soul searching! :-)Announcement, Meme, and LOST!!!!!!ANNOUNCEMENT: catiekeane and I have discussed it, and it is time for another watch-a-thon. I think solitude_2 will back me up when I say North and South mustMUSTbe next. Y'ALL WILL LOVE IT! It is on Netflix's instant viewing, I know, but other than that I'm not sure how to get one's hands on it.
SO…
IF you want to play along, please tell me in a comment (as in the AD-a-thon days, I don't want to clear my schedule and be like Kenneth the Page, throwing a party with no one showing up); it'll be fun even if there are just a few of us! I think either Saturday or Sunday afternoon will work, so I hope y'all will play! I SWEAR it's incredible; almost 4,000 people have gotten it's average up to a 9.2 on IMDB, and Netflix voters give it 5 of 5 stars!!!!!
MEME: bandbooktvworm tagged me, and it's fun to be tagged.
A) People who have been tagged must write their answers on their blog. Replace any question that they dislike with a new, original question if you're a pussy.
B) Tag eight people. Don't refuse to do that. Don't tag who tagged you.
1. Make a list of 5 things you can see without getting up:
Eloquence in an Electronic Age by Kathleen Hall Jamieson, an empty wine glass, my cell phone, my TiVo remote, my hairbrush (luckily my desk is super dirty; I didn't even have to turn my head!)
2. How do you style your hair?
Either in a French braid that I tuck under or in a ponytail. If I'm going out and being fancy, I blow it dry and curl the fuck out of it. I prefer that, but I'm lazy enough that the previous styles are most common.
3. What are you wearing now?
Red t-shirt, my watch, jeans, and Ugg boots that are getting tatty
4. What's your occupation?
Student, RA, TA, intern, and peer essay reviewer
5. Do you nap a lot?
No
6. Who was the last person you hugged?
Himself
7. What's your current fandom/obsession/addiction?
North and South, 30 Rock, LOST, and my constant, Diet Coke
8. What was the last thing you ate today?
Pita bread.
9. What was the last text message you received?
From Holland at the end of LOST: "What, so now they just went back?"
10. What websites do you always visit when you go online?
GMail, BC Mail, LJ, CNN.com
11. What was the last thing you bought?
A salad.
12. What are you listening to right now?
The Harry Potter theme just came on randomly on shuffle. I love that song.
13. What annoys you?
Laziness, people who talk in hallways/corridors/on stairs, the smell of mint, being interrupted.
14. What is your favourite food?
Tacos.
15. What is your favorite weather, and why?
Sunny, hot, and pretty humid. Reminds me of my childhood in the SOUTH
16. If you could play any musical instrument, which one would you play?
Cello
17. How are you?
Full and happy.
18. What's something you'd like to say to someone right now?
I think you should give me a job.
19. Say something about the person who tagged you:
"The Virgin Abby," bandbooktvworm, is an awesome gal who knows everything about awesome books and movies. She's a beloved FFTC member, North and South convert, and AD fan, too! :D
TAG! You're it: swayinisdancin, catiekeane , laslohollyfeld , brianthestuntbu (c'mon, it's just 19 questions), solitude_2 , daybythelake , _gentlycollapse, la_faerie
LOST: I'll go under a cut in case y'all missed it…
SO GOOD! I love this season so much. I love that this show makes me feel smart when I figure things out, and I love how unabashedly nerdy it is. Stuff I noticed…
-I kept waiting for that pendulum to knock Desmond down. He was stealth at dodging it.
-I love how NO ONE doubts all this time travel stuff; the island folks and O-6ers act like someone said "We're having pasta for dinner," not "The island is flying through time."
-I loved Ben's snappy reply for why he could read, and how funny that he got his ass kicked. At first I thought he tried to kill Penny, since he called from the docks, but then Sayid was there randomly, and not of his own will, so I wonder if he had something to do with that.
-Am I the only one who wonders if Aaron was in Hurley's guitar case? What did Kate do with him??
-The "scene from next week" before Locke hangs himself was SO Christ-like, with Ben kneeling before him. GUH, show! ILUSOHARD!!!!! :D
-Every time I see Jin, my first thought/word is, "Boat?"
-Jack and Kate are annoying. My one gripe is that the writers could make me loathe something I used to love so much. She's just a bitch now. Her little "nothing has changed" line on the plane was annoying, when all Jack wanted to do was join the Mile-High Club.
No Museum tomorrow! I have to go to a meeting in the Comm dept around four, so I just took the day off rather than waste 2 hours traveling for a shorter work day. I can get tons of thesis stuff done instead! - Comments: 0

—The Thai place gave me WAYYYY too much pad thai; I'm about to burst!
—I have GREAT friends! Again, thanks for the LJ and Facebook notes!
I didn't do ANY work today. Exactly one pageONE—of my thesis was written. That's shameful. I need to crank out about 12 by Tuesday. It can be done…right?
—Amanda loved North and South.
—ack_attack's comments about Jin and Charlotte in the latest recap of LOST reminds me of this.
—"Retreat to Move Forward" of 30 Rock is one of the best episodes of TV I have ever seen.
—Himself is adorable. He made me a cake as a surprise but came running in here with it saying, "It's melty!" Turns out he put the icing on it too soon after taking it out of the oven. We're going to fork into it when he gets home from bullgang. I love him so much.
—I discovered today that the following things can be rewatched infinite times: Gone with the Wind, Steel Magnolias, part four of North and South, and the aforementioned ep of 30 Rock.
—I have had two cupcakes today. It's my birthday; I'll eat what I want.
—I am flipping my room tonight. I'm literally moving the bed to the other side, the desk to the other side, etc. etc. :D
22 is pretty good so far. :DBOOKS!!!!!I finally have Lolita!!!!!! I got it at the library, and I also snagged the complete works of Elizabeth Gaskell for my spring break trip; I've wanted to read North and South since winter break, and apparently the book also has some cool essays and articles she wrote back in the day. Hoorah! I'll also be taking Wally Lamb's latest tome on the trip, The Hour I First Believed, which I am itching to read. I also want to get Ken Follett's sequel to Pillars of the Earth (I realize I'm overestimating how much reading I'll be doing, but I've sworn to read ONLY fun books on this trip, dammit, so I want to make the most! of it!).
—Speaking of which, I leave for Jamaica a week from Friday!! WOOT!!
—I am about to go to Total Body Conditioning with Emma, meaning I'll be ten kinds of dead and sore tomorrow. Oh well.
—I just saw a girl-version of Draco Malfoy; no kidding, that was my first thought. She had white-blonde hair that was shoulder-length and curled out in a flippy style, and she had on a long black coat. In my head, I thought, "Narcissa!" *dork moment* When is the movie coming outttt??
—BC beat Duke last night!! An ESPN guy declared that our team is "schizophrenic," and it's so true. We beat UNC and Duke but fall to effing Harvard? I don't really care about sports, but how bout some consistency, y'all?!
—Himself has a test tomorrow, and I have sworn not to sleep until I have ten thesis pages. We are going to the "asylum" (re: the plain brick walled annex of the lounge that no one ever uses) to study till the cows come home tonight. - Comments: 0

—I have a new mood theme!! Yes indeedy, it's North and South from crackified. I am very pleased with it, though the more subdued tone of the movie means zanier moods like "giddy" and "ecstatic" aren't….well…giddy and ecstatic. Still, the emo emotions are VERY emo thanks to Richard Fuck-Me Armitage. For example, you will know just by looking if I'm (determined) or (envious), or, God forbid, (lonely) or (pissed off). Lucky for us I'm generally (cheerful), (enthralled), or (happy), so huzzah. Though admittedly room should be made to be (horny) from time to time on LJ if only to see Thornton's popped badass collar. ;)
(I know only solitude_2 will really appreciate this whole schpeel, but still, I LOVE it).
—The Office was fair (I want to SEE Holly), and I loved 30 Rock. I smorted WAY too loud when ol' Liz's boob just fell out. I kind of hate that NBC showed so much in promos, but it was still a solid ep. I kind of prefer when Kenneth and Tracy don't have that much screentime together, as their zaniness can be too much, but I liked the Don QuixoteCyrano De Bergerac storyline. Can Salma Hayek leave soon, though? I loved the scene with Jack in confession, but her character is bothering me (though I like her as an actress).
—My history prof said I can email my paper to him (turning it in late, even during class, costs you a letter grade, and I don't want to take chances), so I have to shelve my neurotic drive and be FINISHED with it once and for all. I've been tweaking it for an hour. I hate not being satisfied with papers, even when they're in top form.
I'm excited for tomorrow to be Friday! I want to sleep in Saturday, work with Himself then go out for a tasty dinner, and turn 22 this weekend!!!Doff It Is My Birthday!!!Tra la, tra la for turning another year! Thanks for LJ and Facebook notes, friends!! It's always nice to have spent another year with y'all as my buddies!!
Himself and I had a nice night last night. We worked hard for Bull Gang and had to put out TONS of folding chairs for today's Duke/BC basketball game. After that, we came home to get changed. I tried on my favorite pink dress last week, but it was a bit snug, so I noshed on veggies and chicken and cereal for most of the week. It fit just right last night! We took the train in to Newbury Street for dinner at Kashmir, a really nice Indian restaurant. Himself had never had Indian food, and he thoroughly enjoyed it (even if he did get the plainest thing on the menugotta start somewhere). We came home and got in bed to watch Entourage and shared a cupcake. Good times!
—My mom called today. Seems like all the ugliness of yesterday is water under the bridge. Neither of us brought it up, so I think both parties now understand the other side's arguments. Mom said my grandmother has officially been diagnosed with Alzeihmer's; it's far from a surprise, as we've been thinking that all the long. She apparently accuesd my 11-year old step-cousin of stealing and called her a "bitch" the other day; Pitty Pat NEVER curses, not even a "hell" or "damn," so that was a big red flag. It's sad, but it's also a bit comforting to finally have a reason and a diagnosis for all of this. Mom says Boom Pa is putting pedal to the metal so they can move to my town and be closer to my parents; they currently live up on a mountain by themselves, and I think my poor grandfather is starting to feel overwhelmed.
—I'm about to begin my annual birthday tradition: watching Gone with the Wind and drinking a diet coke. I need to do a lot of thesis work, but I'll pull my laptop into bed and do that as I watch Scarlett go through her adventure. It's been my 2-15 tradition since I turned 16, so good times!
—Funny story: Because of the incident with the resident the other night, Himself never got around to getting me Valentine's flowers as he'd planned. I ribbed him about it yesterday, and finally…
CH: You could've just called a florist, you know.
Himself: (exasperated) Oh, and what would they have done?
CH: They deliver.
Himself: No they don't.
CH: Yeah, babe. They do. Have you never seen a movie where someone gets flowers from someone who's not in the room?
Himself: ….Oh.
Heh. Oh boys. - Comments: 0

-I realized all my subject titles were including days of the week lately, so I am shaking it up with my old default: Simpsons quotes!!
-Himself is sick, and I feel so bad for him. I just went to his room to find him passed out on top of a finance textbook with a fever and a sore throat. I got him down for a nap and turned off the light when I tiptoed out of the room; I hate seeing him so pitiful! (**yes, reflectively I realize I made him sound like a baby in those sentences)
-I went to the doctor and all is well. I am going back Friday to finally start those damn Guardasil vaccinations; thanks to Mom's talent of "randomly developing cancer when there's no history of it in our family," as she puts it, I figure I can't be too careful.
-I have to finish my history paper tonight and submit another paper for next year's NCA conference. That means I have to comb through my harddrive and old emails to FIND the paper for NCA. Grumble grumble.
-LOST TONIGHT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AND our staff meeting was cancelled, too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-I'm so about to put in either The Thorn Birds or North and South. What to do, what to do…. :D
-I wanna grow up and be fucking awesome like Michelle Obama someday.
-laslohollyfeld listed stuff he "doesn't get;" I have to contribute a few too…
CalculusIt's worthless.
"Gossip Girl"I tried, I really did, but it's worthless too.
Runny cheesesI love cheddar and swiss and monterrey jack, but gooey cheeses make me queasy.
Charlotte on "LOST"You should just be happy I didn't say Penny.
**Iced CoffeeI don't like coffee to begin with, so I'm likely biased, but once in a while I think, "I might like it cold with sugar and stuff!" and it's always a let down when it's just bitter coldness.Theories and Fun for this Tropical DayIt is 50 degrees outside!! I'm tempted to put on a swimsuit and go lay out (too bad it's cloudy). I just love weather like this. I'll be on the beach in 2 weeks, though, so I can wait!
I liked LOST last night. It wasn't as grand as the previous two eps, but I enjoyed it. I have a theory, though…
What if the island is really fucked up because the Oceanic 6 is its constant? OR what if the people on the island, and not the island itself, are moving through time a la Desmond-in-s4 because they've lost THEIR constants (re: Oceanic 6)?? I've figured some pairingsSun/Jin, Locke/Ben, Kate/Sawyer—but not the rest. It probably doesn't make sense, but we paused the ep for about five minutes last night to discuss the possibility.
Even though we knew Eloise was Dan's mom, I LOVED Ben's pissed off reaction. It's always best when he gets flustered/mad/enraged. I also loved how he just stopped the car and chewed out Sun and Jack for bitching out on him.
Sun annoyed me last night, mainly cause she's all "I'm gonna shoot you, bitch!" and then it's like, "Oh no, take me to your leader" or whatever. And I don't care about Jack sobbing over Kate. I've also officially decided Evangeline Lilly is almost too skinny.
Charlotte is dead. Oh well.
**I liked seeing the monster again, and that whole scene was pretty boss. I also like a theory I read on laslohollyfeld's journal that Smoky can assume other people's voices and shapes. Cool shit.
—I'm embarrassingly stoked for "30 Rock" tonight; the promo had me howling with laughter.
—I'm almost finished with The Post-Birthday World. It's not the best book ever, but definitely very interesting. I stopped reading on the train so I could save the last 50 pages for my lunch break. I MUST get Lolita this weekend, though! I'm already behind on the FFTC because the library doesn't have a copy!
—I submitted a paper for the NCA conference last night. Who knows if I'll get in, but whatevs.
—I rewatched pt. 4 of "North and South" again last night (GUHHHHH) and wasted another 20 minutes reading bad N/S fic. Good times.
—My earrings are being weird. Or rather my skin is. I have super sensitive ears. *random fact*
—I do not tire of this commercial.
—Time to work…on something. I'm a little bored… - Comments: 0

-I have written another 300 words of my history paper (which is due Friday). It has to be no more than 1,500 words in length, and it feels like pulling teeth. I HATE writing short papers; my thesis is over 23,000 words long so far, and it's a lot easier to write. I guess I just struggle to put together tight arguments. I also hate deleting pretty flourishes and artistic phrasing for the sake of brevity. *hmph*
-I am obsessed with this GIF for some reason…
-I just ordered a new fleece jacket. I've had the same one for three years to wear under my North Face shell, so Himself decided for me that it's time for a new one. I got this one in blue and paid $64 instead of $150. That's a find!
-I have been listening to the Dixie Chicks all night long. WTH, right? But I'm strangely okay with it; their music isn't bad and it reminds me of fifth grade.
-I've now had three dreams about my sister's wedding in the last week. For some reason, this doesn't seem too normal. I don't even know if Holland is dreaming about it with that much frequency…
-The FFTC is reading "Lolita" next! I'm super excited. I will be checking it out from the library tomorrow and cannot wait to start!
-Okay. Time to write more of the paper. And drink more wine. :)Stuff-The Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show is tonight!! It's a big tradition in my family to watch it, and Emma and I have watched it together since freshman year. I'm TiVoing it now, as I've gotten sucked into North and South (again) and would rather watch the show without commercials. Emma's coming over tomorrow night for the big finale and Thai food. Should be fun.
-Fuck and fuck, my body aches. Emma and I went to a total body conditioning class at the gym, and everything hurts. We finished the course with ab workouts, and I told Emma, "By the end of that, I swear I must've looked like I was being smothered or something, my arms and legs were failing and flailing so much." I'm probably right in that description, as my body sorta failed me towards the end, but still it was a great workout and I look forward to going again.
-We talked about King Henry VIII in a class today, and my first thought was, "Eff, when will The Tudors be back?" I miss it.
-I need to work on that damn history paper again (I'm at the 1000 word mark—only 500 to go! I swear, it's like pulling teeth). Grumble, grumble…
-I have to go to work at 9 again tomorrow, meaning I have to get up at 7 instead of 9. Argh for early mornings.
ETA: It is official. I cannot tire of "North and South." EVER. And I want a French Bulldog when I graduate.Oh Tuesdays…Here we go again with Tuesday. Grumble grumble.
Actually, today should be okay. I'm keeping busy with Museum work, and Emma's coming over tonight for Thai food and the dog show. I really enjoyed the first half last night and, as usual, I wanted to own all the dogs. Specifically: the French bulldog, the Rhodesian Redback, the beagle, and the bigass sheepdog. Himself enjoyed it, too, which is good since he's feeling a bit under the weather this week.
I am obsessed with this icon and Liz/Drew in general. Yey Thursday!!!
I have to polish an essay to submit to the NCA conference. Deadline's tomorrow, and I'm dragging my feet. Argh.
I wanna watch "North and South" again. In a fit of procrastination/morbid curiosity/boredom last night, I avoided my essay-editing job and poked around for N&S fic for an hour. Heh. I love wasting time sometimes.
My shoulders and butt are super sore. Oww. - Comments: 0

-I just took a two hour nap, even though Himself and I went to bed at 1 and got up at noon. Why am I so tired??
-We are on duty together tonight, and I know we're gonna have a problem with a room in the basement. They were listening to a song called "I LOVE BEER" on like setting 11 of volume loudness, and it's one of the kids' birthday, so I know it's gonna be a shitshow. We are waiting to catch them until the next round: the drunker they are, the less they protest and the sloppier they are at hiding their booze. Ah, this is the dream job…
-We are finally picking a new book over at the_fftc_ftw !!! If you are a member, go over and vote!!!
-I have to finish a paper before 10. It is my goal.
**ETA: I failed at my goal. Fuck it. That's what Sundays are for. I've done 3 of the 5ish pages.
-Himself and I are going to watch a movie later. I still need to eat dinner, but we went walking around a bunch of stores today with Phil and Greg, and Phil purchased a bag of Cadbury milk chocolate eggs. FUCK STORES FOR HAVING DELICIOUS TREATS OUT SO FAR AHEAD OF THE HOLIDAY, BUT FUCK THEY ARE SOOOOO GOOD THAT I HAVE A SLIGHT TUMMY ACHE.
Oh well. Just gotta wait for an appetite to so I can order a salad later.
-What's up with you?50 Degrees FTW!!!!!!!-It's 50 degrees outside! I feel like I should be out frolicking and making grassmen (the warmer answer to snowmen), but I'm inside instead. Which is good, since it's windy today.
-I am doing a minor f-list trim today; it's nothing personal, but communications seem to have stopped with some of y'all, so I figure this is the next step.
-Himself and I are doing bullgang tonight for some extra money, and I need it. I have so many little expenses and things I want to buy. Himself found me a nice Mountain Hardware fleece on super sale for $54 down from $175, but I only have like $54 in my account and need to buy medicine at CVS and some necessary odds and ends. I'm also fighting the temptation to put money on my credit card as I am trying to lower that balance rather than make it higher. Oh well—hopefully I'll get some money for my b-day next week.
-Speaking of which, I'll be 22 next Sunday. That feels old, for some reason…
-I need to go to the infirmary tomorrow. To avoid TMI, let's just say I have a bad memory and need to be sure about something. Grumble for inconvenience.
-I need to work on that paper today and finish the fucker. It's due Friday, but I don't want to have to think about it all week long.
-This asshole is annoying me. How do you argue that you "need evidence" to prove that the Holocaust happened? It just blows my mind that people are that stupid.
-My iTunes is being hormonal. It works some days and freezes on others. WTH?
-I sound grumpy, but I'm really not. I'm actually in a good mood! - Comments: 0

—At the Museum. I had a bitch of a time getting here today. Usually I get on the BC bus at 7:30, take the train, and arrive at the MOS right at 9. Today, I got delayed for 10 minutes down by BU, had to wait another 10 minutes for another train, then had to change trains when the one that finally arrived was taken out of service. I got to work 20 minutes late, which sucks.
—I kind of want to do this LJ layout. I always love changing it up.
—I have to come in at 7:30 AM on Thursday! AHHHHH We are taking part of an exhibit to a morning news show. The good news is that I'll get to book it out of here around 3; I did that at CNN a time or two, and it was awesome. It'll be doubly good since I'll need Thursday night for Jamaica prep.
—Speaking of which, Emma and I had this convo last night after deciding to grab lunch at Chipotle on Wednesday.
E: Good. Then I can stop at CVS and get my survival kit stuff for the trip!
ME: Oh, what's that?
E: Well, I need sunscreen and aloe-
ME: So you are planning to get burned.
E: Obviously. Then I want Immodium, because I want to be ready for stomach aches and stuff, and I won't let a digestive problem keep me from eating all the food at the buffets.
ME: Wow.
E: Then I want Pepto, too, just to be sure. I mean, they won't have a CVS there, so I want to be prepared, but I also want the freedom to eat any cookie or dinner that I want to.
ME: …I was just gonna grab some People magazines and a deck of cards…
We're gonna have a blast.
Time to write a press release. What are y'all up to today??WednesdayI wrote a few thesis pages last night, then started a new little fic-let. These tiny, 3000ish word one-shots are just the perfect little break from hardcore thesis writing. It's like taking a leisurely walk around the track after running a half-marathon. I hope to finish it tonight…
—After I watch Slumdog Millionaire (YEY for duplicitiously-secured copies of movies-still-in-theaters!) and LOST. I am excited for both. I also need to do laundry for the trip.
—I ALSO need to get in bed at a decent hour. For some reason, getting up at 7 tomorrow seems different than when I got up at 7 yesterday. Perhaps because I'm going to be "working" at 8 rather than 9…. Oh well.
—Himself is asleep up under a pile of blankets on my bed. He's precious and perfect in every way.
—Barack was AWESOME last night. I swooned 25 minutes into the speech when I realized he'd not yet uttered the word (or a variation of ) "terror." His views on education make my little academic soul go into convulsions of ecstacy, and I'm all for the health care plan. It was a wonderful speech.
—I finished Lolita today. And WOW. Just…wow. Yeah.
—I find out it costs $10 to use the internet for 15 minutes at our resort in Jamaica, so I'll be off the radar for a week starting Friday. Just a heads up so you can buy tissues and chocolates with which to console yourselves. ;) - Comments: 0

-This video of 7-year old David coming home from the dentist has been going around, but it cracks me up because he sounds EXACTLY like my drunkass freshmen residents when they get in after 2 on Friday nights. HI-larious. "Why is this happening to me!?"
-Wednesdays are so much better than fucking Tuesdays. We are having a surprise fire drill at 9 tonight, so I'll be watching LOST on TiVo with some friends at a later time than usual, but I'm still excited!!
-I'm watching part of "The Princess Bride" now in my break between classes. It still floors me that Inigo "Prepare to Die" Montoya is played by the dude from Yentl.
-I got the schedule for the ECA conference in Philadelphia! I'll be presenting "That's What She Said: A Study of Gender Roles on NBC's The Office" at 9 AM on April 25th. It should be fun; lots of folks from the department are going, so I think we'll be roadtripping it to PA for the event. The panel says it features the "top four competitive papers from the Lambda Pi Eta affiliation this year." *feels accomplished*
-I saw a meme going around asking folks to pick their seven favorite fictional TV characters. Because I'm lazy today, I will just list them rather than doing a picspammish thing…
1. Liz Lemon, 30 RockI pick her because she's the first TV character to actually represent real women. She eats real food, she doesn't dress like a superstar, she fails every once in a while, and she's fucking funny.
2. Niles Crane, FrasierMy first TV crush, and he's so witty.
3. Lucy Ricardo, I Love LucyLucy is the chicken noodle soup of TV. Ultimate comfort viewing.
4. Lucille Bluth, Arrested DevelopmentShe makes manipulation look like an act of love.
5. JR Ewing, DallasI fucking loved this show in elementary school (no judgments, please), and though the show reeks of camp now, I still love watching JR manipulate. Larry Hagman was also fun on I Dream of Jeannie, but he smoldered and rocked on Dallas.
6. Patty and Selma Bouvier, The SimpsonsBecause they're hateful and funny while being so.
7. Al Swearengen, Deadwood—Cause he's a fucking cocksucker (**I don't usually use that word; it's fitting to the character)
-I need to go to class soon. I don't wanna.
-Inconceivable.9It is 9 degrees outside.
These are 9 things I need to do today…write a history paper draft, update my cultural diversity journal, buy a light bulb, get warm, watch 30 Rock, go to CVS, think of a seventh thing, go to the gym, be on duty.
9 things I LOVED about LOST…
1. Jin is alive!! Fuck the miserable people; I like him (and hopefully he can pull the major prickly stick out of Sun's ass)
2. Sawyer's reaction to seeing Previous!Kate and Previous!Claire; I like him more and more each week.
3. A friend said Miles might be Candlestick's son. OMGITMAKESSENSE
4. The time travel thing with Rousseau and her group; some folks think she's too pretty to become Danielle (c. 2004 version), but I say 16 years scavenging for food in the hot sun after losing your child would age anyone. Plus it's LOST, so I'll believe anything.
5. Sayid killing someone: he should kill someone every week.
6. Ben's cool explanations for everything: "He's my lawyer." "No, Jack. I'm the one trying to get Aaron. Hi Kate!"
7. Juliet's growing affection for Sawyer—she just has a thing for guys who are into Kate (literally and figuratively), but I don't distrust her like I used to.
8. The realization that this BAMF show consistently reinvents itself each year and I don't even mind; I was thinking about it after the ep, and every season is unique to itself but still holds true to the characters and premise of the show. I like that, and I wish other shows I like/liked had the same guts and creativity to keep themselves fresh.
9. Locke in general. I can't wait to discover how he died, but I hope he comes back to life when they get back to the island.
As usual, I think this is my new favorite episode of the season. They just get better and better with a perfect balance of the characters. I do think s5 will end up being my favorite season (after s1, which is my default favorite ever).
